When I arrived on this island 20 years ago and discovered Palma, I dreamt of my own Cafe in the old town: authentic but not normal, in the centre but
not right in the middle. It took another 7 years to find the ideal place – the Bar Coto. It was run by a Mallorquin and for 30 years meeting point for neighbors and visitors at the Plaça Drassana in the La Lonja Neighborhood.
During the renovation of the Café I was inspired by Frida Kahlo: her courage, not only using colors, her vision, her passion for life and for people and last but not least her beauty.
I started small, but never alone: I developed the menu together with my mother. Selected the wines following recommendations from a close friend,
the power to realize my dream gave me the love of my life. Meanwhile we are an “equipo” of 24 people from Mallorca and Spain, Portugal, France, Argentina,
Uruguay, Ecuador and Germany.
As we enjoy food and we cherish quality, we buy fresh regional products daily at the “Mercat de l’Olivar”. And we love diversity – reflected in our
menu. During our travels through the world we love to discover new dishes for our menu: For example Curries from Thailand, Dhal’s from India, or
“Fleischpflanzerl” (meatballs) from Bavaria. In addition our card offers everything between Cafe Cortado, excellent selected Spanish Wines and
refreshing Cocktails.
The Bar Coto shall be home for the wild mixture of people at the Plaça Drassana as well for the international visitors coming to enjoy the island.
